Homemade Peanut Butter Treats for Dogs

Making your own treats can be a fun weekend project. Below, you’ll find two recipes using all-natural peanut butter that your dog will love.

Peanut Butter Muffins (makes 12)

  • 1-3/4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup skim milk
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup all-natural peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a bowl, mix all of the ingredients until well blended. Then, beat the batter for 2 minutes. Spoon the batter into muffin cups, about 3/4 way full. Bake for about 18-20 minutes. Let them cool and remove them from the pan.

Peanut Butter Carob Chip Bones (makes about 55- 2″ cookies)

  • 2-1/2 cups unbleached white flour
  • 1/2 cup carob chips
  • 3/4 cup all-natural, smooth peanut butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup wheat germ

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, mix all of the ingredients. Kneed the dough on a floured surface, and roll out the dough to about a half inch thick. Cut out shapes with a dog-bone cookie cutter. Place the cookies about a half-inch a part on a baking sheet. Bake for about 30-35 minutes. The cookies should be firm to the touch. Turn the oven off, and leave the cookies in for 1-2 hours to harden.
