Angel City Pit Bulls is a non-profit pit bull rescue founded in 2010. Through education, they try to change the reputation of the breed around Los Angeles area. And, with the help of pit bull supporters and rescuers, the rescue works to correct overpopulation and high euthanasia rate for pitbull type dogs in the area.
The pit bull rescue is a member of the No Kill Los Angeles Coalition. They believe Los Angeles can be a community where healthy or treatable pets don’t have to be euthanized because of shelter space. As a result, the coalition works to reduce the number of pit bull dogs in shelters. The key is to increase adoptions, owner retention and spay/neuter programs.
Angel City Pit Bulls saves dogs mostly from local shelters that fall in the “pit bull” category. They save dogs that demonstrate solid temperaments and people-friendly traits. Shelter workers realize that they can’t 100% identify pit bull dogs by look. They try to pull dogs that exhibit traits of the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the American Bully, as well as mixed breed dogs.
Angel City Pit Bulls is a foster-based program. It runs entirely on the support of donations and volunteers. The shelter team pairs dogs with well-matched families and pets. Most of the dogs live in multiple-pet homes, which helps socialization and training.
The rescue is always looking for volunteers and foster homes to help care for the homeless pit bulls. But if you prefer to donate products, they need blankets, crates, donations, food, treats, toys etc. Or, if you prefer to make a monetary donation, go online to make a one time donation or set up a monthly donation.
If you live in the LA area and you’re looking to add a little goofiness and love into your home, check out the available dogs. ACPB tries to create the best match between dog and adopter. They want you and the dog to be successful.
When it comes to helping a potential adopter find their right dog, shelter workers do their best to pair adopters with dogs that will suite their lifestyle and dog limits. They help with canine or feline introductions, as well. Angel City Pit Bulls will also help adopters along the way with continued socialization and training.
