Hardin County Pit Bull Rescue is in Batson, Texas. The rescue is a 501(c)(3) public charity that focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming bully breed dogs in the Southeast Texas area. Most of the dogs that are rescued are stray dogs and dogs that were surrendered “kill shelters” throughout Southeast Texas. The Hardin County Pit Bull Rescue does not accept dogs directly to the shelter, but only the dogs on death row at kill shelters.
Because some of the dogs that are pulled have behavioral problems, volunteers and employees work to modify the problems. Many of these dogs have never had loving homes with plenty of toys and treats nor a warm bed to sleep in at night. And, many have been in and out of shelters their whole life. Both of these can cause mild to severe behavioral problems.
If the dog has bad health, anxiety problems or even lack of confidence, they are worked with in attempts to rehabilitate and rehome them. The dogs are evaluated for high energy, high prey drive, dog aggression, food/toy aggression, etc.
After assessing all dogs by a professional, the rescue is able to try to rehabilitate the dogs so that they can become well-adjusted family members.
The Hardin County Pit Bull Rescue also works to educate the public on responsible pet ownership, the importance of pet medications, and spaying neutering. The pit bull rescue also advocates against of dog fighting.
